The Sejm today passed the new economic law which will require all persons in industry to be licensed and to possess definite educational qualifications. The Polish Parliament unexpectedly struck out an amendment accepted by the Sejm committee on trade delaying for three years the date upon which the law was to become effective. The Minister of Commerce is empowered by the law to set the date himself. The law was also modified so as not to apply to those already engaged in industry.

The Jewish deputies. Rosmarin, Rottensreich and Sommerstein, spoke strongly against the new law, which has aroused the apprehension of Polish Jews and which is regarded as a threat to all Jews in commerce and industry.

Polish Jewish communal, rabbinical and commercial organizations all over Poland have protested vigorously against the new economic law, which they fear will complete the economic ruin of Polish Jewry. In the hands of an anti-Jewish government the law would prove a most effective weapon for shutting Jews out of industry and commerce.
