Portugal’s “crypto-Jewish” community is welcoming a full-time rabbi. Rabbi Elisha Salas of Chile was sent to Portugal by the Jerusalem-based Amishav organization, which seeks to return “lost Jews” to Judaism. Ancestors of the crypto-Jews were forcibly converted to Catholicism during the Inquisition.
