Rabbi Abraham Hershberg, chief rabbi of Mexico and president of the Union of Latin American Rabbis, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency here today that he has found, through personal inspection, that “there is no religious freedom in the Soviet Union.”
Rabbi Hershberg is in London on his return trip from a visit to the USSR which, he said, he made not only on behalf of the Union of Latin American rabbis but also as a representative of the Committee for Religious Freedom, an organization with headquarters in Mexico City, of which he is a member. Last night, Rabbi Hershberg conferred with the Right Rev. Dr. Michael Ramsey, Archbishop of Canterbury.
