Moshe Sharett, chairman of the Jewish Agency executive, called today for an all-out effort in Zionist education to counteract the effects of a way of life in many parts of the Diaspora which, he said, leads to a loss of Jewish distinctiveness. Addressing the closing session of the conference of the British Zionist Federation, Mr. Sharett stressed, however, that the prime purpose of Zionism was immigration to Israel.
“It is sometimes puzzling,” Mr. Sharett declared, “why British Zionists are shy of making immigration their main aim and proclaiming it loudly. In this free society, where it is the inherent right of man to determine where he wants to live there is nothing wrong with being aliya minded and saying so.”
Harold Miller, chairman of Poale Zion, a constituent body of the Zionist Federation, was elected chairman of the Federation; Israel M. Sieff was re-elected honorary president, and Sir Barnett Janner was elected president.
