Pre-historic traces of the city of Jerusalem, before it was called Jerusalem, dating back 5,000 years ago, have been discovered by Prof. MacAlister, who has been conducting excavations on the site of the city of David. This was reported today by Prof. MacAlister in a despatch to the ”Daily Telegraph.”
What Prof. MacAlister has discovered is a trench in which a gigantic bastion, originating in the time of ”Melchizedek, King of Solem, Priest of the High Lord,” as he is called in Genises, was buried. The trench, which is 8 feet in depth and 11 feet in width, is older than the Jebusite wall, previously found, and was filled with silt and rubbish in which many potsherds were discovered, all belonging to the middle-bronze age, rougly about 1,500 B.C.
