Professor Eleazar Sukenik, world-renowned archaeologist, has completed excavations of the oldest synagogue ever discovered. The synagogue was found in Yaffish, near Nazareth, and dates back to the fourth century, C.E.
The synagogue’s half-demolished floor still retains a beautiful mosaic bearing the symbols of Israel’s ancient tribes. Prof. Sukenik said that the newly-found synagogue is one of his most “remarkable excavations” and is “bigger and more beautiful than any hitherto discovered.”
