Prominent Counsel Sought for Jews Charged with Plotting Death of Fascist Leader

Sir David Maxwell-Fyfe, formerly chief British prosecutor at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial, may be engaged as counsel for two Jewish youths who have been charged with an attempt on the life of fascist leader John Preen.

The youths. Gerald Flamberg and John Winborne, are leaders of the “43 Group,” which is made up of Jewish veterans who act as volunteer defense squads to protect Jews attending fascist street meetings and who have been active otherwise in combatting anti-Semitic organizations. They are out on bail pending trial.
