Colonial Secretary Malcolm MacDonald, in a written reply to a question by David Adams, Labor M.P., declared today that normal arrangements for military protection will be extended to all new Jewish settlements established in Palestine “with the prior consent of the Government. “
Mr. MacDonald refused to accept responsibility for finding havens for refugees not within the scope of regulated immigration when asked in Commons by Miss Eleanor Rathbone, Independent, whether arrangement had been made to admit to Palestine, Cyprus or some other British colony the 700 refugees quarantined at Beirut.
Pointing out that the refugees had attempted to land illegally in Palestine, MacDonald declared that the admission of a large number of unselected immigrants to British of existing inhabitants of these territories.
