No citizen should be denied nomination or election to the office of the Presidency on grounds of race, religion or ethnic origin, the Council for Christian Social Action of the United Church of Christ said yesterday.
The Council is an official agency of the new 2,300,000 member Protestant body and is holding its mid-winter meeting. The Council’s position was the first statement by a major Protestant body to be made on the issue raised in the 1960 Presidential campaign. The Council in the state affirmed “unequivocally” its opposition to religious tests for the Presidency.
