Public Menorah Smashed in Amsterdam

Unknown persons smashed a large outdoor menorah erected at Gelderland Square shopping center here after it had been lit for the first night of Chanukah last week.

The vandals are believed to have struck on Dec. 12.

The first outdoor menorah kindled in Amsterdam, it was placed there by Rabbi Isaac Vorst of the Chabad Lubavitch organization.

Gelderland Square is located in the modern suburb of Buitenveldert, south of Amsterdam. The area is home to many Jews.
