Rabbi Philip S. Bernstein, advisor on Jewish affairs to the U.S. forces in Europe, today called upon the United States to admit 100,000 displaced Jews as immigrants. In a “Thanksgiving Day” message he asked the U.S. to “give an example to the world, not simply advise.”
He asserted that the admission of the 100,000 refugees “would not have the slightest adverse effect on our economy.” He also urged the powers to come to a speedy decision on the admission of displaced European Jews to Palestine and to call a conference to seek their admission to other countries.
