The Marquis of Reading and David Lloyd George were the guests of honor at the Welsh National Banquet held here Tuesday night on the occasion of St. David’s Day.
Lord Reading pointed to the many things in common between the Welsh and the Jews. The Jews and the Welsh, he said, have the same tenacity of purpose and deep rooted belief in the fundamentals of their religious faiths.
Lloyd George, who in his address stated that the small nations benefit the world by their desire for peace, recalled the services of the Marquis of Reading during the World War, when he was Great Britain’s representative in the United States. Lloyd George recalled that in April, 1918 he cabled to Reading concerning the military position in France and asked him to call on President Wilson to persuade him to send as many men as possible to the French front. The same evening Reading replied that he had secured the promise of President Wilson to send 160,000 men. This is one of the services rendered to the empire by Reading, Lloyd George stated.
