Rep. James H. Scheuer (D.,N.Y.) denounced the fire bombings last week of the offices of Sol Hurok and of Columbia Artists Management, Inc. He termed them “senseless, murderous violence” that are “utterly counter-productive.” In a statement Friday on the House floor, he said that “no responsible Jewish organization is connected in any way with the bombings and I am gratified that the Jewish Defense League has disavowed any connection with this incident.” Recalling his recent visit to the Soviet Union, Scheuer said the “Russians use these violent attacks to cloud the true issue–the cruel and inhuman oppression of the Jewish minority.”
