Reports are reaching Jerusalem that Damascus is softening its stance behind the scenes, despite the public stalemate in Israeli-Syrian talks, according to Israel Radio. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak was due to hold talks in Cairo with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak en route to Washington, where he will meet President Clinton.
