The Moslems’ intense resentment at the Italian action against their co-religionists in Albania was mirrored by the Tunisian press.

The Petit Matin, leading Tunis newspaper, stressed the flagrant contradiction between Italian policy and the promises Premier Benito Mussolini recently made to the Moslem world. “After the attacks of his planes on open cities partially inhabited by Moslems,” the newspaper said, “the last illusions — if there were any sincerely held — of those who had represented Mussolini as the protector of Islam have vanished.” The same organ denounced Rome’s imitation of Hitler’s methods and affirmed that after this most recent exploit Europe will remain in a state of alarm.
