The International Union of Resistance Fighters and Deportees, in a resolution at the end of their three-day congress in West Berlin, charged that the number of court cases involving key Nazis accused of mass murder had been increasingly terminated. Interrupted, or allowed to drag on endlessly.
The congress paid tribute to Beate Klarsfeld, and welcomed the initiative of the Young Free Democrats to rid the party of Deputy Ernst Achenbach, who has been a key figure in blocking ratification of the 1971 Franco-German agreement under which Nazis convicted in absentia by French military courts can be tried in West Germany.
It said the non-trial of leading Nazis was “just as compromising to German justice” as the non-ratification of the Franco-German Nazi trains agreement. The congress also called on all governments to fight terrorist organizations in the world. They expressed concern at the rise of left- and right-wing extremism.
