The famous Jewish chess champion of Czechoslovakia, Richard Reti, died here yesterday at the age of 40. Death was due to scarlet fever.
Reti had participated in many chess tournaments and held the world record of twenty-five blindfold games played simultaneously. He was the author of a book on chess, “The New Idea in Chess.”
Among the newly appointed Kings Councellors announced by the Attorney General of the Province of Ontario, is the name of Nathan Phillips, Toronto lawyer, who is also a representative in the City Council, serving there as Alderman of Ward Four, chieffly populated by Jews.
