Richard Williamson is considered a top candidate to become the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, according to U.N. insiders. Williamson is a former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Human Rights Commission in Geneva and was a deputy to the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, John Negroponte. The resignation of the current ambassador, John Danforth, takes effect Jan. 20.
