The petition submitted to the government by the Jewish parties opposing the contemplated bill to change the religious law, was rejected by the Cabinet Council. Prime Minister Maniu has decided to submit the bill for vote in Parliament.
The newspapers, “Adeverul” and “Dimineatza,” described the government action as a “moral impossibility” and ask why the government seeks to unnecessarily aggravate the Jewish population.
Dr. William Filderman, president of the Union of Roumanian Jews, and Deputies, Fisher and Berkowitz stated, in an interview granted them by the Minister of Religions, that the Jewish population will use all measures to fight this bill.
The change in the religious law would have an adverse effect on the status of the Jewish community in Roumania.
