The end of the hunger strike of 42 Rumanian Jewish leaders in Israel does not mean the end of the campaign against the mass arrest and imprisonment of Zionist and Jewish communal leaders in Rumania, Jewish Agency leaders declared at a mass meeting held here last nigh, at the Great Synagogue, site of the five-day hunger strike which was aimed at bringing to world attention the fate of the Rumanian Jewish leaders.
Reports from Rumania and monitoring of Radio Bucharest revealed this weekend that the Rumanian news agencies and radio had blacked out all mention of the fast in Israel in protest against the Rumanian authorities’ action. The news services of the other Eastern European countries have neither mentioned the arrests and trials in Rumania nor the protests against them in Israel and elsewhere.
