The Rumanian Government today intensified its drive for Jewish emigration, spurring negotiations with colonial powers. The Jewish emigration problem is of the utmost urgency and will be solved without further delay, Foreign Minister Grigore Gafencu declared last night in broadcasting a Government statement.

It is necessary in the interests of the Jews as well as of the progress of the country that a part of the Jewish population should migrate, Mr. Gafencu asserted. The Government is determined to approach the problem with full energy and has already got in touch with colonial powers to obtain acceleration of colonization plans for Rumanian Jews, he said. The Foreign Minister declared in conclusion that all minorities in Rumania would enjoy equal treatment within the framework of the Constitution.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce of Ramnicu-Sarat struck 31 Jewish firms off its register. The licenses of the majority of Jewish grain brokers were cancelled by grain exchanges in Czernowitz, Balti, Kishinev and Constanza. King Carol has given his annual Christmas donation for the Jewish poor in Bucharest. The sum this year was 5,000 lei (about $25).
