Three major Jewish groups in this country have is##ed a joint memorandum to the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine asking “at the committee give a hearing to representatives of the Jewish community of Rumania.
The memorandum, issued by the Rumanian section of the World Jewish Congress, the ##on of Rumanian Jews and the Jewish Party, stresses that the Jews here are vitally interested in free Jewish immigration to Palestine and the establishment of a Jewish ##. Reviewing the present situation of Rumanian Jewry, it states that because of sastrous crop failures coupled with low industrial production, the Jews, who are ##stly urban white collar workers and small businessmen, are in dire economic straits.
It also reports that 40 percent of the Jews of Moldavia are on relief rolls and ## vocational retraining is useless because the war ruined Rumanian industry. There are, the memorandum emphasizes, emigration to Palestine is the only way out for the ##. For those who desire to remain in Rumania, the document asserts, the establishment of a Jewish state will be a safeguard against anti-Semitism.
