The Ministry of Arts has decided to grant the Yiddish theatre in Jassy the rank of a state theatre, with all of its employees going on the government payroll, it was reported here this week.
Founded last year by a group of amateurs working under the guidance of the Jewish Culture Group, the theatre was warmly received by Jassy’s 22,000 Jews and was soon housed in a government building. At present the theatre includes professional musicians, directors and actors.
