Russia and the United States clashed last Friday at a meeting of Mideast peace negotiators over whether to isolate Hamas and Syria. The Quartet welcomed a recent U.S. initiative to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, but substantial differences emerged at the Washington meeting over whether to isolate Hamas and Syria. The diplomatic grouping, which also includes the United Nations and European Union, met ahead of a planned U.S.-Israel-Palestinian summit planned for mid-February.
