The position of the Jews in Soviet Russia is harder than that of any other group, declared Rennie Smith, former Undersecretary of State to the Foreign Office, in an address delivered last night at a meeting of the Federation of Jewish Relief Organizations.
Mr. Smith recently returned from a tour of Russia. He explained the difficulty is due to the fact that the Jews are for the most part town dwellers and as such do not possess “even the pitiful advantages of the peasants.”
“I left the Ukraine with a heavy heart and with dread and foreboding as to what will happen to these poor people during the severe winter,” Mr. Smith said.
