Says Potential Markets Create Huge Possibilities for Future of Palestinian Industries

Because of a potential market of 16,000,000 Jews throughout the world and because Palestine’s proximity to all of the Eastern countries gives them an outlet for Palestinian products, industry in Palestine has enormous possibilities for growth and expansion, M. Shenkar, president of the Manufacturers’ Association of Palestine, declared today in an interview with the Palestine Daily Bulletin.

Owing to rapidity of transport and travel and relatively low shipping charges, Palestine will be able to occupy the Oriental markets, especially those of Egypt, as well as of Syria where commission agents are already distributing Palestine products, Mr. Shenkbar pointed out. Palestine’s output should also find ready access to Iraq and Persia while the Indian market has already shown that large quantities of Palestine products can be sold there, he declared.

The wold Jewish market can be of indescribable value to Palestine industry if the proper sort of propaganda is used abroad, especially among Jewish women who should be urged to buy soap, oil, almonds, honey and wine made in Palestine, Mr. Shenkbar said.

Mr. Shenkbar urged the establishment of industrial banks to grant long term credits to industry, the extension of the department of trade and industry of the Jewish Agency so that it may be able to protect the interests of Palestine industry, the reopening of the government department of industry and Zionist assistance in the development of exports by giving bounties, finding new markets, and establishing agencies for the distribution of Palestine products, especially in the neighboring countries.
