The movement for the Nazification of Austria by dividing the population into “Aryan” and “non-Aryan” categories gained considerable impetus here when leading members of the government of Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg officially joined the openly anti-Semitic “Aryan” Jurists’ Association yesterday.
Dr. Karl Buresch, Minister of Finance; Dr. Otto Ender, president of the Federal Court, and former Chancellor Rudolph Ramek formally joined the association, which requires proof that the applicant’s ancestry is pure “Aryan” and that he is not married to a Jewess.
One of the announced aims of the organization is to oust all Austrian Jewish lawyers from the legal profession.
In a move calculated to pacify foreign opinion without actually withdrawing the ghetto school law, Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg, in his capacity of Minister of Education, ordered the Vienna municipal school council to consider individual complaints against the decree. Jewish parents who desire to complain against the segregation of their children in all-Jewish schools will be heard, but the “law was necessary for practical reasons,” the Chancellor’s order stated.
