Minister of Trade and Industry Dov Joseph today met with the representatives of five food gift companies operating in Israel to inform them of changes the government intends to introduce in the “script system.”
The five companies will be amalgamated into one, under government supervision and all gift certificates sold abroad will be issued by the Treasury Department and will bear the names of the sender and the Israeli recipient. This is intended as a move to control the black market.
The companies protested the proposed changes, insisting that their adoption would mean a breach of the existing contracts between the government and each of the five firms.
