Secular activists demonstrated outside the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem against a yeshiva student draft plan. The Movement for Quality Government told Israel Radio that thousands of citizens had signed petitions against a government panel that recommended yeshiva students be allowed to defer army service until the age of 23, when they could take a year off to decide whether to declare Torah their work or be drafted.
