The campaign against Dr. Chaim Weizmann in Zionist ranks which resulted in his being replaced as president of the World Zionist Organization by Nahum Sokolow was a measure of “Jewish anger against Lord Passfield’s pitiful handling of the Palestine situation,” Professor Harold Laski, noted economist and political scientist, declares today in a lengthy article in the Daily Herald, organ of the Labor government.
Professor Laski forecasts that Dr. Weizmann’s retirement is only temporary because “the Jews cannot afford to do without him. Dr. Weizmann was driven to resign because the Jews could not strike at Great Britain directly.”
Discussing Dr. Weizmann’s personal qualifications, Professor Laski says that he does not like colleagues of equal calibre but on the other hand asserts that he has “big conception and ingenuity to devise, skill to execute, imagination, courage, a diplomat’s power to adjust himself and above all personal magnetism which stamps him a born leader.”
