Several Jewish groups criticized Shimon Peres for calling settler backers “schlimazels.” The Israeli deputy prime minister said last week that a protest against plans for Israel to withdraw from the Gaza Strip mostly drew “schlimazels,” a Yiddish word roughly meaning an inept idiot.
