Several Jewish organizations are urging government officials in Tenafly, N.J., to support construction of a wire permitting observant Jews to carry things on Shabbat, according to the Bergen Record. Local officials and some other Jews have criticized the Orthodox community for attempting to construct the eruv without proper permission.
