Hundreds of dolls—raving beauties to their sawdust souls—have just arrived at Alt-man’s and, take my oath for it, if you live anywhere within the vicinity of this fair city, stop off to see them. White – skinned, yellow – skinned, brown – skinned, dressed in the finery of their native lands, they come from all the corners of the earth. It is an educational exhibit of the “Children of Europe, How They Live and How They Play,” and it’s just as thrilling for Mother and grown-up sisters as it is for little Peggy Ann.

If you are not particularly pleased with your face as you see it reflected in the mirror these September days, an excellent place to take it for beautification is Ann Ollendorf’s attractive little salon in the St. Moritz. Miss Ollendorf is one of those specialists whose treatments vary completely according to the skin she is treating. She has a penchant for electrical devices in connection with her pleasant creams and lotions, that stimulate or soothe, as the need may be, and that send creams deep down into your skin. If you have an aching head she will take that on for treatment while she is beautifying your face, and turn you out feeling, as well as looking, a new person.

If no amount of ballyhoo has dissuaded you from the good old custom of washing your face, do it with “Slik” a new kind of wash-cloth. It’s made of a nubbly elastic material which ventilates the skin, dislodges deep-seated dirt and impurities of all kinds. It will even remove paint and other stains. It acts like a massage, leaves you feeling very tingly and happy. There are two weights and the cloths come in sets of three, shaped conveniently. Recommended to irritable shavers as beard softeners. Macy has them.

Helena Rubinstein and Paris sponsors green powder, golden eyelids and polished lips for evening wear! Faces will be tinted in soft shades of green. Eyelids will glitter with gold and silver points. A million pairs of polished lips will brighten gay evening parties. After-dark beauty promises to set a mark for brilliance and splendor this coming social season. Especially important in the new scintillating make-up conception are irridescent eye-shadows flecked with gold and silver points, even as shiny bits of cellophane glimmer forth from the newest Fall and Winter fabrics.

Julian in the Knox and Chanin buildings is deeply concerned with health for the hair. The formulas and tonics he uses on your hair have been in his family for many, many years, and brought right from Italy, which is a happy thought, as Italian women traditionally have glossy, lovely heads. He cuts and waves your hair like nobody else, for Julian’s theory is that it is not the way hair is permanented nor the method, but the manner in which your hair is cut before the permanent that makes for a really beautiful and lasting wave.

In the days of old Salem, Kimmel (218 W. 72nd street) would have been burned as a witch doctor. He is more of a sorcerer than a coutourier. He knows all there is to know about personality. Staying in town? Then you will want a simple frock to wear now and for later under your Fall coat. Planning to go away soon? Oh that’s different. So many people are already planning their wardrobes for the South. You must have something different, something special, something distinguished. For even less than it takes to tell, hemakes you intensely pleased with yourself.
