Singer Theodore Bikel rejected an invitation to attend a Hollywood dinner sponsored by Austria to protest the inclusion of the right-wing Freedom Party in Austria’s government. The dinner, scheduled for later this month, will honor Austrian-born artists. “Even the declaration distancing Austria from the `policies of hate’ signed by Haider” seems “little more than a showpiece,” Bikel, himself born in Austria, wrote to Austrian officials.
