Six Jewish writers, including three Israelis, a New Yorker, a Canadian and a Mexican, were voted here today the annual Zvi Kessel prizes for Jewish literature for 1963. The prize, established by Mr. Kessel, a Mexican-Jewish industrialist, in 1947, consists of a citation and $200.
The winners were Leon Gruszko (Buxtan), of Israel; Benjamin Demblin, of New York; A. Dekel, of Israel; Meir Corona, of Mexico; Avraham Kariv, of Israel; and N. Shemen, of Toronto.
The award of the prizes is administered by the cultural commission of the Jewish Central Committee of Mexico. The awards will be given officially at a literary assembly to be conducted here early in 1964.
