The departure of Germany from the League of Nations will possibly facilitate international action on the German Jews, Dr. Nahum Sokolow, president of the World Zionist Organization, declared here last night ### reception.
Dr. Sololow explained that in the past, government offices, including England, had urged that it was necessary to proceed cautiously as it was inadvisable to antagonize Germany because Germany, it was feared, might leave the League.
“Now perhaps it will be possible to convince Germany that to change her attitude toward the Jews, will be profitable to Germany’s interests. The Zionist Organization together with other Jewish bodies is working to induce Germany to change her Jewish policy. But it is essential that Jewry, in the meantime, help the Zionist Organization financially to transfer to Palestine the German refugees,” Dr. Sokolow declared.
He pointed out that public opinion in other countries is already showing dissatisfaction with the refugees because of the economic crisis and politicians were concerned lest the refugee problem might give rise to anti-Semitism.
Addressing a crowded meeting at the Vienna Concert House, Dr. Sokolow appealed for unity among the various parties and factions in order that upbuilding of Palestine might be speeded.
Dr. Sokolow asked for the ending of hatred and internal strife between the Zionist groups, which would “accelerate the saving of the Jewish people from its united enemies.”
In the audience that heard the famous Zionist leader, were representatives of the embassies in Vienna as well as the representatives of the Austrian government.
