Soviet Court Sentences Malamdim, Gaboyim

Tried before a tribunal where Yiddish was spoken exclusively, twelve orthodox teachers and synagogues trustees of Bobruisk were found guilty of acting contrary to the law prohibiting religious iostruction. One “malamed” was sentenced to one year’s hard labor, the remaining melamdim being freed on account of their old age. The trustees, however, were sentenced to pay a fine of $100 each.
