Soviet Jew and Wife Sentenced to Death for ‘economic Crimes’

A Russian Jew and his wife were sentenced to death in a court in Minsk after being convicted of “economic crimes,” according to the Minsk daily newspaper, Zviazda, received here today. The newspaper named the couple as Semion Borisovich Briskin and his wife Celia.

Three other persons, non-Jews, were convicted in the same trial, Zviazda reported, but these received prison sentences ranging from six months to eight years. All were accused of having diverted food stuffs from an official store to the black-market. Briskin was accused additionally of having sold gold on the black-market.
