Jews in Bulgaria who are Spanish citizens today appealed to the Jewish Community Council to protest against the government decree providing payment of compensation for losses and damages only to citizens of the United Nations.
The appeal points out that Spanish Jews comprise the majority of foreign Jews in Bulgaria, and says that they consider the regulations unjust since they are prevented by them from claiming damages for their property, even though the were plundered and sent to Labor camps under the pro-Nazi regime no less than other Jews in the country. The appeal requests that Spanish Jews in Bulgaria be considered not Spaniards, but Jews who suffered under the former regime.
