Jews in the city of Meknes today sent about 200 telegrams to Premier Bekkai asking him to name David Berdugo, a Meknes Jew, to the seat in the Moroccan Cabinet being held for a Jewish representative. M. Berdugo is the son of the president of the Meknes Jewish Community.
A delegation of Meknes Jews left at the same time for Rabat to personally press this appeal with the Premier. The action of the Meknes Jews is aimed at putting an end to the internal dispute which developed among Moroccan Jews when M. Ben Simon, a Moroccan Jewish leader, was named last week to the post of Minister of Posts and Telegraphs in the first autonomous Moroccan Cabinet. Objections from the Jewish community prevented M. Ben Simon’s appointment and the post remains vacant, held for a Jewish candidate.
