Starting Sunday, security chiefs at Italy’s soccer stadiums will be able to request that matches be halted if fans display racist banners. The decision was made during a meeting between the nation’s interior minister and sports minister. Militant fans, sometimes linked to extremist skinhead groups, have for years displayed racist and anti-Semitic banners directed against opposing teams.
