The alibi claimed by Abraham Stavsky, who is being held here in connection with the assassination of Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff received partial substantiation today in an investigation by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. The proprietor of the hotel at which Stavsky said he stayed on the night of the murder, Mr. Turgeman, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that he had seen Stavsky at eight o’clock in the evening and again at six o’clock the following morning. The murder was committed at eleven P. M.
Mrs. Arlosoroff, who witnessed the slaying of her husband, however, is definitely convinced that Stavsky was the companion of the man who fired three bullets into her husband’s body.
The police are working on the theory that Stavsky may have slipped out of the hotel during the evening and proceeded to Tel Aviv by automobile, returning later. They are trying to check on all vehicles reported near the Moslem cemetery in front of which the murder occurred.
A lawyer retained by the Polish consulate to represent Stavsky, declared that Stavsky had become completely gray since his arrest.
Messages of condolence were received by Mrs. Arlosoroff from Mitqual Pasha, chief of the Tranjordanian sheiks favoring Jewish settlement beyond the Jordan, who expressed the hope that the young son of the Arlosoroffs would follow in his father’s steps, and by the Jewish Agency from Edmond Rothschild.
Over 8,000 people attended the Arlosoroff memorial meeting held last night at the Beth Ha’am in Tel Aviv. Several speakers eulogized the late Zionist labor leader and warned against violence. Similar meetings were held throughout Palestine by the Palestine Labor Party.
