Three “social clubs” which have maintained totally non-Jewish membership policies have yielded to a 10-year campaign of “moral persuasion” from three Jewish agencies and have agreed to accept Jewish membership applications, according to Neil C. Sandberg, regional director of the American Jewish Committee. The Stock Exchange Club, the University Club and the Chancery Club all have “changed their policy of exclusion of Jews voluntarily.” Mr. Sandberg reported, “without public exposure and pressure.” He added the clubs did so “on moral grounds and because they were persuaded it was the right thing to do.” The two assisting Jewish organizations were the American Jewish Congress and the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, he said.
