The BBC defended its plan to air a documentary probing whether Prime Minister Ariel Sharon should be tried for war crimes in connection with the Sabra and Shatilla massacre of Palestinian civilians by Christian militiamen during the 1982 Lebanon war. The show has been sharply criticized by Israeli officials, but the BBC said it is a legitimate analysis of a human rights issue.
