The Claims Conference applauded the U.S. Congress’ decision to exempt Holocaust survivors and their heirs from paying federal taxes on any restitution payments. The exemption was included in the tax bill passed by Congress over the weekend. “Holocaust survivors will now know with certainty that they will receive the full payment to which they are entitled,” said Gideon Taylor, the group’s executive director.
