The diplomatic “Quartet” working for Middle East peace praised Israel’s plan to withdraw from the Gaza Strip. Meeting in New York on Tuesday, representatives of the United States, United Nations, European Union and Russia said they believe Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s disengagement plan “can be a step toward achieving the two-state vision and has the possibility of restarting progress on the ‘road map’ ” peace plan, which the Quartet wrote.
