The German president who helped bring Hitler to power 70 years ago is going to remain an honorary citizen of Berlin. The Greens and other lawmakers had sought to have Paul von Hindenburg’s name removed from the list of Berlin honorary citizens. But conservatives allied with Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder’s Social Democrats blocked the move this week.
