The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society is welcoming President Bush’s pledge to maintain the target number of refugees allowed to enter the country. The organization said it is pleased that Bush decided this week to keep the number of refugees allowed to enter the United States from now through September 2004 at 70,000. But HIAS noted that only 27,000 refugees actually entered the United States during the last 12 months because of security concerns and reorganization at the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
