The Knesset gave preliminary approval to a bill that would reduce the number of chief rabbis in Israel from two to one. There are currently both Ashkenazi and Sephardi chief rabbis. “The separation of Ashkenazi and Sephardi Jews is no longer relevant,” the bill reads.
