The Shekel in now equal in value to one U.S. cent. The currency plunged through the “cent barrier” Tuesday. Economists calculated that in the six years of Likud rule, Israel’s currency has depreciated by 99 percent relative to the Dollar. In the summer of 1977 the Shekel (then 10 Lirot) was worth one Dollar — now it is worth one cent.
